Korea recognised for people development

TNT Korea has been awarded the “People Management” award at the 2006 Korea Ethical Management Grandprix. The annual event is organized by the New Industry Management Association to recognize companies in Korea who excel in ethical management standards including People Management, Transparent Management, Environmental Management, Welfare Management and Cultural Management. “TNT Korea was selected due to our recent Iip accreditation and also for our ‘Star Performer’ training programme and ‘Thank You’ incentive programme, of all which have boosted employee morale and personal staff development,” says Country General Manager, Joongman Kim. “We are delighted to have been recognized in this way. Next year, we will set our sights on winning them all!” 

TNT Express Germany acclaimed as top employer

TNT Express in Germany has, for the second consecutive year, received the “TOP JOB” quality mark for its outstanding Human Resource Management Programme and strong employee orientation. TNT is the only express company in Germany to be recognized in this way. The study, conducted by Dr. Axel G. Schmidt and his research team at the University of Trier’s Institute for SME Economics rated companies on their performance in Vision & Leadership, Development, Remuneration Concepts, Communication and Culture and Family and Social Orientation. TNT Express Germany fulfilled the TOP JOB standards in every area. 

TNT delivers more at the Berlin Film Festival

TNT Express in Germany has once again taken a prominent role at the “Berlinale”, one of the worlds largest film festivals. As the official partner of Berlin’s 56th film festival, TNT Express was responsible for transporting hundreds of films from all over the world to Germany’s capital. The famous industrial designer Luigi Colani designed a special TNT “exhibition” truck, which was parked in the famous Potsdamer Platz square at the epicenter of the Berlinale. 

100 new pilots for TNT Airways

TNT Airways is taking on an additional 80 new pilots this year, following the recruitment of an initial 20 in January. The pilots will join TNT Airways’ existing Liege-based aircrew of 284 to operate the 9 new aircrafts which are set to join the company’s airfleet by May 2007. “With new routes, growing traffic on our current air routes and the increase in aircraft numbers, hiring 100 new pilots is essential to the expansion of the network,” says Niky Terzakis, Managing Director, TNT Airways. “As the fleet expands, pilots are directly benefiting from internal promotions, either from one aircraft type to another or from First Officer to Captain positions. Like any other TNT employee, pilots are just as keen to shape their careers.”

TNT Russia partners with ballet company 

After a three-year relationship that began with one small project, TNT has become the official supplier for the Helikon Opera Theatre Company based at the Moscow Opera House. TNT delivers documents, contracts, music scores and tapes 

EC recognizes TNT's diversity management excellence

TNT was selected as one of only 19 European companies to be featured in the EC Compendium entitled “The Business Case for Diversity: Good Practices in the Workplace”.

In March of 2005, the European Commission asked TNT to apply to the project entitled “The Business of Diversity”. TNT Austria, which counts reduced employee turnover and absenteeism as results of diversity management and immigrant integration programs, was submitted as a case example. As a result, the European Commission selected TNT as one of 19 “exemplary companies” who demonstrate that the development of diversity programs in the workplace have a positive impact on company performance. TNT also participated in the European Conference on Workplace Diversity in November. 

Peter Bakker unveils TNT India charity initiative

TNT India has launched a “Tie and Dye” unit at the Spastics Society of Karnataka (SSK), a charity based in Bangalore that provides academic and vocational training to physically and mentally challenged children. The facility, inaugurated by Peter Bakker, trains children in the skills to make “tie and dye” products such as hand towels, wall hangings, bags, photo frames and packaging. 

TNT India has been closely associated with SSK for more than 10 years, having already supported the establishment of a creative art unit and a mailroom facility, which TNT itself utilizes.

Special Services help Guatemalan archaeologist and Dubai Community College

TNT Special Services have once again demonstrated their commitment to excellent customer service, helping customers in Guatemala and Turkey ship special goods to Finland and Dubai, respectively. 

In Guatemala, Special Services was responsible for transporting a priceless load of archeological treasures found in the jungle of Cancuén, Guatemala to Finland for a special exhibition at the Didrichsen Art and Cultural Museum in Helsinki. The treasures, which were discovered in 1999, required special handling, packing and security, as well as rigorous documentation and customs procedures which were required to transport the priceless goods. TNT operations in both Guatemala and Finland facilitated the complex packing, travel, and dismantling of the cargo. 

TNT Special Services also shipped the world’s latest and most powerful visual display systems- the Holovision Smart Screen from Istanbul to Dubai, which was used as a video wall for a Higher Colleges of Technology community event. 

TNT awarded contract for ticket distribution at Winter Olympics 2006

TNT won the contract to distribute tickets for the 2006 Olympics in Turin. 35,000 tickets were distributed throughout Europe, utilizing the Special Services and Operations divisions of TNT to ensure safe delivery to the recipients. The 2006 Olympics marks the third time TNT has been chosen to orchestrate the distribution. 

TNT Launches CIT “returns” functionality

TNT Express has launched a new standardized CIT functionality that enables customers to print documentation for return shipments during the outbound process of a consignment. This new function allows customers who need to return a shipment to simply read the instructions and arrange a pickup by TNT Customer Service. In addition to a simplified and time efficient return procedure, the CIT functionality allows customers to track shipments easily and minimizes paper waste through a scanning system. 

TNT Sponsors Rembrandt 400

2006 marks the 400 year anniversary of the birth of Rembrandt. TNT will be one of the main sponsors of Rembrandt 400, a celebration of the life and work of the greatest Dutch painter of the 17th century. Over the course of the year, various exhibitions and events will examine his contribution to the art world and the events in his life which influenced his paintings, etchings, and drawings. Museums and organizations around the world will lend their works to Amsterdam and Leiden, the two cities the artist called home, resulting in the largest exhibition of Rembrandt’s work to date. 

TNT France recognised for services to medical industry

TNT Express France has been awarded the “CERTIPHARM” standard, a reference standard that recognizes good practice in the distribution of medicine. The standard reassures manufacturers that the quality obtained during manufacture, storage and order processing is not jeopardised by the transport of their products.
“TNT is one of only a limited amount of transport companies to have obtained this certification in France. It clearly reflects our expertise in the express transport of medical products and the professionalism and commitment of TNT employees in collecting, dispatching and delivering parcels to the health sector,” says Eric Jacquemet, Managing Director, TNT Express France.
Everyday, TNT Express France delivers 50,000 shipments in the medical sector to pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics, dental practices and veterinary surgeons throughout the country. 

TNT Indonesia supports Jakarta Film Festival

For the sixth consecutive year, TNT Indonesia has provided international express services for the Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest). For the 2005 event, which took place in December, 185 of the 2005 films came from 40 different countries, and each had its own pick-up schedule and courier process. In return for providing discounted express services, TNT Indonesia held a TNT Movie Day for 450 of its customers and employees who, together with invited media, attended a special viewing of “Le Grand Voyage”, awarded Best Film at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. TNT also gained a lot of branding exposure through indoor and outdoor banners, while a TNT advertisement and the TNT logo appeared in the official Jiffest programme. All 300 JiFFest committee representatives also wore TNT branded T-Shirts throughout the festival

Managing Safely Programme receives international accreditation

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has recently accredited the Managing Safely training programme for TNT Express, which was launched in 2005 and which is being rolled out this year. TNT Express is the first transport company to achieve such a global accredation from IOSH. IOSH is Europe's leading body for health and safety professionals and is responsible for setting professional standards, supporting and developing members and providing authoritative advice and guidance on health and safety issues. “The Managing Safely Programme has been designed not only to ensure that we raise the focus on health and safety, but also to ensure that managers and first level supervisors possess the right competencies,” says Rob Ter Hedde, Learning & Development Manager at the Express Learning Center.

TNT Delivers 1,000 Copies Of New Dubai Book To Libraries Worldwide

TNT is responsible for the delivery of 1000 copies of Rashid’s Legacy: The Genesis of the Maktoum Family and the History of Dubai. The book was produced under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry. This is the first authorised title dealing with the story of the emirate and its remarkable Ruling family, containing 200,000 words and some 400 photographs. The publishers, Media Prima, announced they would donate 1,000 copies of the book to major libraries and seats of learning worldwide. “There are all too many examples of a lack of understanding of Dubai, the UAE and the Arab World in general, particularly in the West. Even American leaders have shown that they face an absence of clear knowledge as to the realities of the moderninity and good governance that Dubai stands for,” stated Lara Marrouchi, Managing Director of Media Prima.. The Arabic version of the book - due for release later this year - will see more books sent with an emphasis on the Arab world. “This is a special consignment for us and we will ensure the books are delivered safey, securely and on-time,“ said Bryan Moulds, Country Manager, TNT UAE. The list includes the National Diet Library in Japan, the Bibliothčque Nationale de France, the national libraries of Australia, China and Russia, the British Library, Bodleian Library at Oxford, the British Library of Political and Economic, the Library of Congress, Yale University, Carnegie-Mellon University, Washington University, Smithsonian Institution Libraries, Getty Research Institute and Princeton University. Commenting on TNT’s sense of community and social responsibility in participating in the initiative, Marrouchi added, “It is a mountainous task to ensure that so many copies get to the right people, in 66 countries. With TNT, the job just gets done with a minimum of fuss.”

TNT opens in Cambodia

TNT Express has established operations in Cambodia with a small team led by Acting Country General Manager Nitin Dave. Its head office is located in Phnom Pehn, with a second branch located in Siem Reap. Three more branches are planned by the end of 2007. “Cambodia is an important emerging market for TNT and extremely strategic for the new Asia Road Network because it connects Thailand and Vietnam,” says Michael Drake, Regional General Manager, Asia. “Only DHL has had a direct presence to date, but there is much business to be gained amongst textiles and professional services companies as well as with the many Non-Governmental Organizations that operate in the country. It will take about two years to build a robust business that will lead to long term sustainable profit.”

TNT HK: a “Caring Company”

For the fourth consecutive year, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service has recognized TNT Hong Kong for its active involvement in community services and its sound business ethics. Additionally, Country General Manager Ambrose Linn and the Director of Human Resources, Louisa Lee, have been nominated as Caring Ambassadors for their involvement in, and contributions to, the company’s community programmes. 
TNT Hong Kong works with Oxfam, the Caritas Community Centre for the elderly and the Rainbow Project helping children with autism. It also works with various educational institutions and provides a social club for all TNT employees and their families.

TNT Russia skis for Down’s Children

TNT Express in Russia has once again sponsored and taken part in Moscow’s annual ski race in support of the “Down Side Up” fund for children with Down’s syndrome. Harro van Graafeiland, Country General Manager, TNT Express Russia officiated the proceedings by starting each of the three races-the 1km, the 3km (which were both won by TNT) and the team relay race in which TNT came in third.

Education Programme in South Africa benefits from TNT

TNT has donated more than €200,000 to build eight new classrooms at four different primary schools in Ledig in the North Western Province of South Africa. “It came to our attention that the schools in this area had become very overcrowded and that the solution was to build new classrooms for the students who are between 4 and 16 years of age”, says Peter van Minderhout, Group Director Communications & Sustainability, TNT. “There is an enormous need for corporate investment in social projects in South Africa which focus on improving education-however it is essential that these projects are sustainable. Our initial investment at the end of the year will be supplemented during the next two years to ensure that this project continues,” he adds.

TNT Spain recognized for quality

TNT Express in Spain has been recognized by two independent organizations for its quality management practices. TNT Spain’s northern Aragoón region has received the Management Excellence Award for its continuous improvement in management processes based on the EFQM Excellence Model, while the Catalonia Regional Government’s Innovation and Management Development Departmenthas awarded TNT Express Spain with the prestigious “Premio Catalan” accreditation for quality management. “I am delighted that we have been recognized for our recent efforts. These achievements are a tribute to the hard work and commitment by all TNT Express Spain’s employees,” says Country General Manager, Gonzalo Chico. In addition, TNT Spain has also been presented with the “Premio Codespa” award for its involvement in the United Nations World Food Programme and in particular for assisting in the education and feeding of 2000 children in Nicaragua. Prince Felipe of Spain presented the award to José Luis de Arcenegui, HR Director TNT Spain.

TNT Indonesia: employer of choice

TNT Indonesia has been awarded “Best Company” in the Indonesian Employer of Choice Awards conducted by one of the country’s leading business magazines, SWA, in conjunction with international HR consultant Hay Group. It follows the outcome of a survey that was completed by 5,080 employees from 31 companies in Indonesia-all of which are already known for their good HR practices. The survey used assessment criteria called Engaged Performance (EP), a technique developed by Hay Group that evaluates employee commitment via company effectiveness, and growth and opportunity. YNT Indonesia ranked first amongst other reputable companies such as Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Dexa Medica, Sampoerna, Bank Danamon, Pfizer and Astra International. “Winning this prestigious award demonstrates that TNT continues to set the highest standards in human resources globally,” says Peter Langley, Country General Manager, TNT Indonesia. “In Indonesia we have always believed that our employees are one of the most important assets and this award recognizes our commitment to them.”

TNT website ranks best in Europe

14 December 2005 - According to Webranking™ 2005, published by the Financial Times, the TNT website ranks as best corporate website of Europe. In 2004 TNT was ranked number three. A total of approximately 500 companies were reviewed according to 131 criteria based on the results of a questionnaire amongst more than 400 financial analysts, investors and business journalists. The 2005 criteria put more emphasis on technique, navigation and general corporate information.

TNT again best Dutch financial website 2005

3 November 2005 - For the second year running the corporate financial website of TNT has finished first in the annual ranking of Dutch financial websites.

Research agency Jungle Rating, that compiles the ranking in cooperation with leading Dutch business newspaper, Het Financieele Dagblad, has rated TNT best in six of twelve research dimensions. TNT's scores were especially strong in strategy and multimedia.

TPG website ranks third in Europe.

03 November 2004 - According to Webranking 2004, the TPG website ranks third among the best corporate web sites in Europe, up from number 15 in 2003. A total of 482 companies were reviewed by 147 analysts, who rated the sites on 111 criteria. The 2004 criteria put more emphasis on corporate social responsibility and corporate governance.

TPG employees walk the world to end hunger

20 June 2004 - In what is believed to be the only walk that circles the globe, 40,000 employees of TNT, TPG Post and the World Food Programme (WFP) raised € 700,000 – enough to feed 25,000 children for one year – through a sponsored walk on 20 June 2004. The event got underway at 10 a.m. in every time zone, beginning in Auckland, New Zealand. As the world turned, employees walked in 24 time zones in 24 hours. Walk the World will become an annual event.

TNT Supervisory Board reflects TPG’s global presence

The composition and breadth of experience of the TNT Supervisory Board reflects the company’s global presence and ambitions. The eight members of the body are executives drawn from various countries and backgrounds in global business relevant to TNT’s interests. The Supervisory Board is charged with the supervision of the TNT Board of Management and the general course of affairs of TNT and the business connected with it, including its financial policies and corporate structure.

TPG’s reputation strongly increased

TPG’s reputation in the Netherlands has greatly improved. This is demonstrated by the results of the annual Reputation Quotient (RQ) survey, undertaken by the American Reputation Institute in cooperation with the Corporate Communication Centre of the Rotterdam Erasmus University and Harris Interactive. This survey measures the reputation of the 25 best-known companies in the Netherlands based on an international standard. TPG scored an RQ of 71.17 in 2003 compared to 64.0 in the preceding year. This caused a jump in our ranking from 26th place to the fifth position. For the second consecutive year, Heineken was the Dutch company with the best reputation.

Kofi Annan thanks TNT employees

Peter Bakker & Kofi Annan

TNT's CEO Peter Bakker and World Food Programme's Executive Director James T Morris met with the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in January 2004. Mr Annan thanked TNT employees for their sensitivity and concern for fellow human beings and for the work that they have done with WFP. The UN General Secretary hopes that other private sector companies will follow the example of TNT and WFP.

TNT's CEO Mr Bakker attended the WEF to chair the Logistics & Transportation industry meeting and to participate in a panel session on corporate philantropy. In addition, WFP and TNT held a joint press conference at the WEF to highlight how the private and public sectors can form an alliance to tackle major social issues.

Minister Hoogervorst appointed Peter Bakker as special ambassador for sooner better

On 27 January Minister Hoogervorst of Health, Welfare and Sport has officially installed Peter Bakker as ambassador for the programme Sooner Better. Peter Bakker has the instruction to investigate how the logistic processes in the health care sector could be improved. This should lead to better performance of the health care sector as a whole. In March he will report his findings to the Minister.

TPG is top Dutch company in European webranking

26 November 2003 - the European results of Webranking 2003 were published in the Financial Times IT Review. TPG is number 1 in the Netherlands and at European level number 15.

Webranking 2003 by Hallvarsson & Halvarsson has looked at the websites of the 153 largest companies on the FT500 list of Europe's largest companies. The companies have been reviewed on a total of 99 criteria, covering both technology and content, but with a focus on mainly financial information.

TPG supports fair trade

22 August 2003 - As part of its commitment to help improve living conditions of people in developing countries, in 2003 TPG made a conscious decision to purchase its holiday gift boxes for its employees in the Netherlands from the Fair Trade Organisation (FTO). The order was the largest the organisation had ever received. FTO imports and sells food and non-food products from developing countries, purchased in accordance with corporate social responsibility standards.

Upgrade of TNT Express European Air Express hub
